Medicinal Mango

The mango fruit has numerous health benefits. It adds fiber to your diet. Fiber protects you from various digestive and circulatory disorders. Ayurveda underlines the three qualities of an unripe green mango - sour, astringent, and cooling.

Do not eat an unripe mango without any other accompanying food item. Not only that, eat it sparingly to avoid indigestion and metabolic imbalance. Taken in combination with a dash of salt, red chilies or black pepper, onion, ginger, and dehydrated seeds of pomegranate, the unripe mango is carminative or digestive. This preparation, called dip (or chutney in Hindi) helps control a large number of digestive problems, such as hyperacidity, flatulence, and constipation.

The mango fruit is a storehouse of antioxidants, such as beta-carotene and Vitamin C. Antioxidants help fight stress and prevent heart disease and cancer. Beside, mango is also rich in bioflavonoids. Bioflavonoids help build vitamin D in the body with the help of sunlight. Vitamin D helps prevent serious bone disorders like osteoporosis. Hence bioflavonoids help boost your immune system.

Ripe mango, despite being sweet, is low in calories and is an excellent source of potassium. An energizer, mango is literally loaded with vitamin A, which is known to help prevent a number of eye disorders and also cancer. The Mango is an effective antibacterial agent too.
