Yoga - The Benefits Yoga Aids Healing Ayurveda - Holistic Medicine
|
Ayurveda the ancient system of medicine comes to the rescue of the chronically sick in expediting their recovery. Ayurveda differs from the modern medicine in several ways - no side effects, purely herbal hence no intake of chemicals needed and compounds are also nutritive. While traditional medicine works on "pigeon-hole" treatment - one medicine for one disease or disorder, ayurveda works holistically. Thus one medicine may work for many problems and at the same time several medicines may be beneficial in case of one. Ayurvedic treatment more effective than supplementsRecent research shows little or no increase in the density of calcium in the bones of people aged over 60 who were on regular doses of the supplements bought in Chemist shops. An earlier study had similar results in the case of pregnant women. Herbal sources of calcium on the other hand have been known to have beneficial effects. Proven over time, ayurvedic formulations exist to answer the need for supplements which are easily assimilable and hence are effective treatments. As the saying goes - "without right food medicines have no effect and when the food is right in the first place the medicine is not needed". Here bad food means badly processed or cooked (overcooked, refined, containing additives), and also badly timed (e.g., yoghurt must not be consumed in your dinner, according to ayurvedic priciples.) Ayurveda dictates, however, that the correct diet and the proper cooking and preparation of food can have a beneficial influence on our health and help those with many ailments down a quick path to recovery. The fundamentals of recovery from a disorder or disease are inbuilt in our bodies natural systems. The road to longevity does not go through an elixir (or a chemist shop) but has to be found from within. Yoga helps us restore the balances in our lives and to give us the potential to enjoy life, disease free and content.
