A commune of ascetics in the eastern part of central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh has inmates from all age groups. While much of what goes on there as religious and community work is comprehensible, what confounds you are the ages of the inhabitants, as they look much younger then their years. Some who look in their early 60s are in fact over hundred. Some others are in their 70s but they look in their forties. But to a Yogi, a practitioner of yoga, there is no mystery about his youthful looks and longevity. The commune's inhabitants are the practitioners of yoga, the new mantra of health and fitness that is revolutionizing the way people are improving their health, well being and happiness. Loosely speaking yoga is a practice of pranayama, a set of breathing exercises, yogasana, a set of physical postures, eating the correct foods and the way we go about our life in totality. A movement of sorts is raging the Indian subcontinent right now as more and more people are taking to yoga, which they are finding inexpensive, easy to practise and most importantly not only preventive, but also amazingly curative of a range of lifestyle, and seemingly incurable disorders.
