YogaYoga, a Sanskrit (ancient language of the Indian continent) word, loosely means uniting the physical body and the mind Yoga takes the physical being as the expression of mind in absolute terms - its physiology and its anatomy, all its aspects; while the forms and the chemistry of your organs have their basis in your genetic makeup that you inherited from our parents, your non-physical harmonizing and balancing forces are the functions of the mind influencing and controlling the physical life processes like metabolism, catabolism and anabolism. In other words, the physical existence of your body is the function of your mind. Several interpretations of the word and the practice of Yoga are available. But what needs to be understood is that the mind over the body and the whole physical world is central to both understanding and the practice of Yoga. The founder of YogaIt was the sage Maharishi Patanajali, in the 3rd century BC, who postulated and proved the mind-over-body theory and is called the founder and father of Yoga. Believed to be a master physician and philosopher his observations, literature, teachings and practices form the basis of an ancient science of well being - the Yoga. Yoga underlines the fact that a living creature is not only a complete being in himself capable of self-curing when afflicted by a disorder or a disease but also achieving much more, all through the agency of mind. Yoga did not happen over a few decades or centuries. It is as old as the recorded human civilization, over 5000 years, as the old Indian scriptures indicate. It was a thriving science of self healing and salvation in the days of Patanjali. The salvation, according to Yoga is the liberation from the miseries of life - be they physical miseries or mental ones. Yoga surely did not evolve as just a painkiller of a limited effect. It is characterized with features of permanence, the eternal liberation. Yoga - an ideal for lifeYoga prescribes an ideal way of life. This can be understood by the fact how confused are we today as to how to go about our choice of food, work and rest. The treatise on Yoga is an astoundingly huge work on the experiments which were conducted through several centuries by the wise men of yore. Maharishi Patanjali did an excellent job of putting in order the practices of those times which ensured a blissful life that was in harmony with the nature.
