The time-tested ayurvedic home remedy for any severe skin disorder also holds good for psoriasis.

Mix an extract of Margosa (botanical name Azadirachta indica) leaves with extract of cow dung and cow urine in equal volumes. (To prepare the extract of cow dung, mix the dung with water so as to turn it into a suspension. Then, filter it through a cotton cloth or a fine filter, thereby separating the solid component of the suspension and retaining only the liquid.)

Apply this mixture on the affected skin and leave it on for several hours before taking a bath. If you are suffering from a severe case of psoriasis, apply this mixture two to three times a day.

You may find the concoction repulsive, owing to the ingredients and also the stench. But you will get over this nauseating/repulsive feeling after a few applications. The bottom line is that it works quite effectively, just like most other ayurvedic applications, and has absolutely no side effects.

It is an excellent replacement for cortisones, which are normally used to treat skin disorders. Cortisones, over a period of time, cause great imbalances in the body, which are seen as serious side effects.

Other Ayurvedic remedies

Other than the application described above, there are also a few ayurvedic formulations that you can consume to help control the psoriasis. Let us discuss a few of these briefly here.

Divya Kaya-Kalpa Kvatha:

This medicine is available as a liquid.

Dosage: Boil one teaspoonful (5 gm) of this medicine in 400 ml of water continuously, till the solution reduces from the original 400 ml to a 100 ml. Strain out the solution and drink it on empty stomach before breakfast and dinner.

Note: This formulation may cause an upset stomach, resulting in loose motions. If this happens, reduce the dosage by half and slowly increase it to the full dosage prescribed initially, over a timeframe of a week, or maybe even longer, depending on the ability of your body to adjust to this formulation.

This second formulation requires the following in the given measurements:

  • Divya Rasa Manikya: 1gm - Divya Pravala Pisti: 10 gm
  • Divya Kaya Kalpa Vati: 20 gm - Divya Amrita Sat: 10 gm
  • Divya Tala Sindura: 1 gm

Dosage: Mix these ingredients thoroughly and divide them into 60 equal portions. Have one portion each with a spoonful of honey or hot water on an empty stomach twice a day, an hour before breakfast and dinner.

The third ayurvedic formulation - Divya Kaisora Gugglu (60 gm) - is available in tablet form.

Dosage: Take two tablets twice a day, after breakfast and dinner. You can wash the tablets down with water.

Divya Arogya Vardhani – 20 gm.

This medication is also available in tablet form. Dosage - Take one tablet twice a day, after breakfast and dinner. You can wash the tablets down with water.

Maha Manjistharista

This medication is available as a liquid.

Dosage; You must drink this medication twice a day, after your meals. Each time, mix four teaspoonfuls of medicine with four teaspoonfuls of water.

Divya Kaya-Kalpa Taila

This medication is available as a solution. Apply it externally on the affected parts twice a day.

Important

Since you body is not used to these ayurvedic medications, it is possible that the body may initially react to them. Do not panic, as ayurveda has no permanent side effects.

All you need to do is to reduce the dosage if your body shows adverse reactions (e.g. an upset stomach) and slowly increase the dosage over time, as your body adjusts itself to these medications.
