The Scarsdale Diet

The Scarsdale diet is a controversial diet regimen that offers swift results, but can have dangerous, sometimes lethal, side effects. The Scarsdale diet is designed for adults who have no limitations as far as their diet is concerned.

The Scarsdale diet is a short duration diet module, lasting for a week to a maximum period of two weeks. It follows the basic three meals a day formula, with no snacks allowed in the interim period between meals. There are specific food items marked for each meal, and you must strictly eat only those items that are mentioned as being part of a meal, for effective results.

The Scarsdale diet plan

The Scarsdale diet prescribes meals that are extremely low-carbohydrate and high protein in nature. It also allows usage of herbal food items that are actually hunger-suppressants, i.e. they help curb your hunger pangs and ensure that your food intake is limited and low. The Scarsdale diet cuts out food with high fiber content, as also doesn't have too many nutrients.

If you are on a Scarsdale diet, then alcohol is strictly prohibited. You may drink water, black tea, black coffee (you can have either regular or decaffeinated black coffee), and sodas.

The primary focus of the Scarsdale diet is drastic weight loss in as less a timeframe as possible. To this end, it keeps the calorie intake at a minimum.

The Scarsdale diet is very effective as far as quick weight reduction is concerned. The herbal hunger suppressants as well as the food taken ensure that you do not have to stay or feel hungry between meals, and yet you lose the excess pounds in double-quick time. Besides, you do not have to worry about keeping a count of the calories you are consuming or losing.

Drawbacks of the Scarsdale diet

However, as mentioned earlier the Scarsdale diet can have drastic side effects if you have prior dietary restrictions. The biggest drawback of the Scarsdale diet is that it deprives your body of essential vitamins and nutrients, and also carbohydrates in an effort to trim down the fat.

This is certainly a dangerous way of losing weight. The diet will work only if followed exactly as prescribed. There is another major worry point with this diet - the herbal hunger suppressants. These are very serious health risks for people with high blood pressure and cardiac problems. If taken in large amounts, in combination with coffee, these can kill a person with the above-mentioned problems.
