Atkins DietDevised by Dr. Robert C. Atkins, the Atkins diet is among the most scientific of diet programs. It was introduced to the world in the early part of the 70s. It is probably one of the most popular and recognized diet regimens in not just the United States, but the entire world. The Atkins diet claims to be very effective in its efforts at combating obesity by inducing weight loss in the human body. Scientific approach to weight lossThe Atkins diet is said to be a scientific approach to weight loss. The stress in this diet is on eating food that is low on carbohydrates and high on protein. The reduced carbohydrates ensure that the starch content is controlled, thereby ensuring reduction in body fat, while the high protein ensures that the body gets the required nutrition to stay healthy and fit. Atkins diet induction phaseThe Atkins Diet enables a person to shed weight easily, and in quick time. This is how the Atkins Diet works. During the first stage, the body is deprived of carbohydrates, putting the person in near-starvation mode, in the sense that while the person can eat as much of proteinaceous food as he wants, he is barred from any carbohydrates. This phase is called the Induction Phase, and usually lasts for up to two weeks. During the first two weeks, also called the induced ketosis stage, the body is starved of carbohydrates, and fed on proteins, even if they are high-energy containing materials. Carbohydrates can be slowly increasedAt the end of the first two weeks, the person is allowed to take a little amount of green vegetables that have carbohydrates. You can systematically add more carbohydrates to your diet, till you know that you have actually stopped losing weight. That amount of carbohydrate is the threshold amount that your body requires, and the amount that ensures that you will not put the weight back on all too soon.
