Treating Angina

Angina treatment is more preventive than curative in nature.

It is treated with a view to prevent further deterioration of the condition, and reduce the risk of a heart attack. Taking one aspirin tablet a day, about 75-100mg, is good for patients diagnosed with stable angina. An ideal treatment is refraining from exerting oneself to much. Another treatment option to relieve the pain is to place a nitroglycerin tablet beneath the tongue.

Nitroglycerin is a vasodilator and helps relax the blood vessels, and bring down the blood pressure.

Surgical techniques

If there is sufficient narrowing of the coronary arteries to indicate increased risk of a heart attack, a cardiologist can use a variety of surgical techniques such as stents - which widen a narrow artery, or even perform a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG).

Homepathic remedies can help

Besides these conventional treatment options, alternative medical fields such as homeopathy too have come up with effective preventive measures. There are different medicines given in homeopathy to help provide relief from an angina attack. In case of a severe attack of angina, amyl nitrite can be given. Other options in case of a serious attack are Nux vomica and arsenic album. Another option for immediate relief is Cactus grandiflorus in a regulated dosage.

Ayurveda may benefit angina sufferers

Ayurveda too has its own treatment for angina. Taking Abana, a herbal and mineral mixture, can drastically reduce the frequency and intensity of angina. In order to keep the cholesterol levels under control, the herb Guggul can be used.

Besides homeopathy and ayurveda, there are numerous other alternative treatment options as well. These include chelation therapy, acupressure, diet therapy, reflexology, yoga, and a host of other such treatment options.
